Venie Hinson, Andover, Ohio
Venie holds a B.F.A. degree in Art from Kent State University (l985) with a fibers emphasis. She
studied painting at the Cleveland Institute of Art from l979 to l983, bringing a strong color and design background to her classes.
Her work has been exhibited and is in collections throughout Indiana, Ohio, PA, and NY. She has received juried awards in several
museum shows, including Nassau County in Queens, NY.
As a fiber artist, Venie works in a variety of media including marbling, weaving, papermaking, feltmaking, and, of course, basketry.
She designs baskets, creating a number of new baskets annually. Basket patterns are available on this website. Or see

Venie has taught workshops and lectured throughout the midwest
and east, including Cleveland Museum of Art, Stoneybrook University in NY, and at national conferences and art centers, including
Touchstone Center for the Arts. In the past few years she has been teaching at various regional basket conferences in Indiana,
Illinois, Ohio, and Missouri. In 2005 Venie will be teaching at conferences in Arizona; Virginia; North Carolina; Kentucky;
Ohio; Oklahoma; Branson, Missouri; Independence, Missouri; and Wichita, Kansas.
Her work has been featured in articles
in Basket Bits as well as Cleveland Magazine and a variety of newspaper articles. She was featured on Fox Channel 8 in February,
2004 on "Kickin' It with Kenny".
Favorite basket techniques include twill weave variations and unique structures, such as the
divided wall construction or marbled baskets.
Classes are available in 3, 6, 8, 9, or 12 hour segments in basketry, marbling,
